Marine Canvas, Boat Covers & Bimini Tops

Boat canvas does a different job from boat upholstery: it keeps sun, rain and spray off the boat and the people in it. UpholsteryLink handles marine canvas projects — custom boat covers, Bimini tops, canvas enclosures, and canvas repair or replacement — and coordinates each one with an approved UpholsteryLink partner qualified for marine canvas work, which not every upholstery shop does.

Marine canvas work

  • Custom boat covers

Mooring and storage covers made to fit the hull, rails and anything that sticks up, so the cover sheds water instead of pooling it.

  • Bimini tops

New Bimini top canvas for an existing frame, or a replacement when the fabric has faded, torn or stopped holding its shape.

  • Canvas enclosures

Side and aft curtains, connectors and full enclosures that close in a cockpit or helm area.

  • Cockpit and console covers

Fitted covers for helm stations, consoles, seats and other gear left in the weather.

  • Canvas repair

Torn panels, failed seams, worn chafe points, and broken zippers or snaps, where repair still makes sense.

  • Canvas replacement

A new top or cover patterned from the old one, when the fabric has reached the end of its life.

Repair, replace or make new?

Photos usually answer this. The UpholsteryLink team reviews them and tells you which approach fits before anything is quoted.

Usually repairable

  • A single torn panel
  • Seams that have opened
  • A broken zipper or a few failed snaps
  • Chafe at one contact point

Usually replaced

  • Fabric that tears when pressed
  • Faded, brittle or leaking canvas
  • Several failed seams
  • A cover that no longer fits after changes to the boat

Made new

  • No existing cover or top
  • A new frame or layout
  • An enclosure added to an existing Bimini
  • A change of color or fabric

Boat seats and cushions too

Many boats need both. One request can cover canvas and upholstery; UpholsteryLink coordinates each part with a partner qualified for that work.

  • Boat seat upholstery

Helm, captain’s and bench seats recovered in marine vinyl.

  • Cushions and sun pads

New covers, foam replacement and made-to-fit cushions.

What to send for a canvas quote

  1. A photo of the boat from each side, with the existing top or cover in place if you have one.

  2. Close-ups of tears, seams, zippers, snaps or fasteners that have failed.

  3. The boat make, model and length, and where it is kept.

  4. What you want: repair, a replacement, or something new — and any color preference.

  5. When the boat can be measured; canvas is measured on the boat after review.

Marine canvas questions

Does UpholsteryLink do marine canvas or just boat upholstery?
Both. Marine canvas — covers, Bimini tops and enclosures — and marine upholstery are separate kinds of work, and UpholsteryLink coordinates each with an approved partner qualified for it.
Can you make a cover without the old one?
Often, yes. A new cover or top is patterned on the boat. Send photos and the boat details, and the measuring visit is arranged after review.
Can you reuse my Bimini frame?
If the frame is straight and sound, new canvas can usually be made for it. Include photos of the frame and fittings.
Do I need to know which fabric I want?
No. Fabric and color are confirmed with UpholsteryLink as part of the quote; mention any preference or anything you need to match.
